creating urban programmatic diversity based on contextual opportunities

Having a bird observation tower right around the corner is a rather unusual yet pleasant feature. When asked to "improve Bucharests urban space through a punctual but consistent intervention", we searched for the opportunity to show up with the least expected suggestion. Located 20 minutes away from the very city center, the chosen site faces a less urbanised area. This urban "scar", the unfinished construction of an artificial lake, has been left alone for more then 20 years, becoming a perfect breeding ground for a huge number of bird species."

The proximity between The Vacaresti Lake and the Tineretului Park determines the virtual axis that integrates our proposal. The intersection between Constantin Stamate Street and Vacaresti Street is a starting point towards the pavilion located on the pier. Here you may find different shops, restaurants and parking spaces.
Entering the open land you discover an interesting aspect of the unbuilt - the huge contrast between this land and the nearby urban tissue. The journey into the unknown serves to initiate you into this complex natural ecosystem – The Vacaresti Delta. Finding this precious place in the heart of the city makes you wonder – how did such a place evolved in this urban area?

Axonometry showing Access Path, Tower and Birdfeeder

The virtual axis that defines our project crosses the open land and ends with an observation tower. Continuing this axis, near the observation tower, we proposed a disguised structure hoasting a bird feeder. The visitor can observe the flora and fauna of the Delta from different heights in the tower, thus having an almost complete experience of the surounding wildlife.
